About Todd

My experience is based upon 30+ years of repairing my own homes, building things out of wood, overseeing and managing rental properties, and upgrading worn out, broken, or dated original household features.

It started during high school wood shop class.  I enjoyed creating and building a set of walnut end tables and a matching coffee table with glass inserts, and some funky (now modern) lamps that I use today.  Because my step-father had a boring day job, he came home and built things out of wood for pleasure.  Together we built many sets of custom kitchen cabinets from scratch, routing the doors, and assembling, delivering and installing them for customers.  We also built backyard storage sheds (similar to Tuff-Sheds).  He would set up jigs and templates so all the rafters were cut the same similar to an assembly line.  As a kid I was always available to hand him plenty of nails, but I also learned from him by closely observing.  My parents owned seven older rental properties therefore during the purchase and repair I became adept at soldering pipes, replacing faucets, repairing drywall, painting and cleanup.

Ten years ago I owned a 1970’s house that needed the bathrooms upgraded.  I replaced countertops and faucets, added medicine cabinets, replaced mirrors, upgraded flooring and textured and painted walls.  The master bathroom was expanded from a standup shower into a tub/shower combination by removing the pantry in the adjacent kitchen.  I gutted the entire room replacing the window, replacing all the drywall, tiling the shower area, and putting in a pocket door.  I also upgraded the kitchen by replacing the exhaust fan above the stove with a built-in microwave, adding a ceiling fan over the kitchen table and upgrading the linoleum.  I also replaced several windows that had lost their seal.

I also owned a rental property in Castle Rock for about nine years.  When renters vacated the premises, I performed the necessary repairs and painting myself rather than contracting it out.

In my current home I have hung ceiling fans, built storage shelves, repaired drywall cracks, caulked the driveway cracks, upgraded door knobs, added storm doors, replaced the faucets, and finished the basement adding a full bathroom and several closets.

My great friends who don’t have the time or knowledge to repair their own homes have called upon me numerous times to assist them with a variety of projects.  I have helped many of them upgrade their homes and finish their to-do lists.

I was employed as an IT Manager until April 2006 when the company filed for Bankruptcy.  During the down time I contemplated a career switch.  The Handyman Todd idea progressed into creating this business and it was officially launched in January 2007.

*Updated* I gave the Handyman business a one year test and I didn't quite make enough money to continue full time.  I have taken another IT job in January of 2008 but I still plan on doing small Handyman jobs a couple weekends a month.  Call me or email me and I'll see what I can do for you.

I am very meticulous, responsible, prompt, and I care about what I’m doing.  I enjoy seeing the response of a happy homeowner when my work is appreciated.  I am insured and I take pride in my work – I prefer to get the job done right for a happy customer.
